European Heritage Days 2022
25 August 2022As part of theEuropean Heritage Days, la Manufacture tonnelière La Grange and the exhibition spaces of the Fonds Charlois pour l’Art et la Forêt will open their doors exceptionally on Saturday, September 17, and Sunday, September 18, 2022, from 10 AM to 6 PM.
.
The 2022 edition of the European Heritage Days celebrates sustainable heritage, a theme that perfectly aligns with the values upheld by La Grange and the Fonds Charlois. These include the transmission of centuries-old artisanal cooperage expertise and the promotion of sustainable, renewable raw materials.
Coopers of la Manufacture tonnelière La Grange will passionately showcase their craft, demonstrating the various steps required to create an oak barrel: shaping the staves (dolage, jointing), raising the barrel (mise en rose), bending and toasting over a brazier (cintrage and chauffe), assembling (fonçage), and hooping (cerclage).
This is a unique opportunity to witness the ancestral techniques and exceptional craftsmanship of these master coopers, whose creations are meticulously hand-shaped and hooped from the finest oak staves (merrains). Like a tailor-made masterpiece, each barrel is crafted to perfection, ready to age the wines of the world’s greatest terroirs.
Wine tasting workshops featuring wines aged in oak barrels will also be offered to visitors at 11 AM, 1 PM, 3 PM, and 5 PM (registration required on the Fonds Charlois website Fonds Charlois.Duration: Approximately 1 hour).
We look forward to welcoming many of you to Murlin for this unmissable cultural event!
