An interview with artist Jean-Guillaume Mathiaut

6 April 2023

Jean-Guillaume Mathiaut is a multi-talented artist who has had a deep and abiding bond with oak trees and the forest since his childhood. This bond has naturally led him to take up sculptural art – in oak, of course.

This career path and the connection with oak trees were, of course, a natural fit for the Group… and for Jean-Guillaume, who was delighted to come and pay us a visit in Murlin, where we took him through the Charlois Group’s history and world. Our idea, rooted for generations in the Charlois family, is to continue to beautify oak in all its forms and this is in tune with the artist’s own ethos.

During Jean-Guillaume’s visit, he made some wonderful discoveries and met some great people, notably the craftsmen at the La Grange cooperage, where Jean-Guillaume tried his hand at using a number of tools and found numerous sources of inspiration.

This shared sensibility augurs well for future projects with the Charlois Group. Watch this space!
