Candles Charlois X Faïencerie Georges

6 March 2025

Charlois and Faïencerie Georges share many common values ancestral family know-how, deep territorial roots, and a love for beauty which naturally brought these two houses from the Nièvre region together to collaborate.

Candles Infused with the Essence of Cooperage Oak

This first collaboration has resulted in creation of a series of four exceptional candles, each fragrance inspired by the aromatic intensity of cooperage oak toasting. The scents reflect the subtle aromas of fresh stavewood and various toast levels – light, medium, and heavy:
Fresh Stavewood: Oak sap with undergrowth and fresh hay accents.
Light Toast: Warm wood with notes of baked apples and a hint of cinnamon.
Medium Toast: Toasted wood with nuances of roasted grains and a touch of warm milk.
Heavy Toast: Deeply toasted wood with aromas of roasted chestnuts and soft vanilla.

A Minimalist Design on Nevers Blue

Faïencerie Georges, in operation since 1898, handcrafted the earthenware cups, adorned with the iconic Nevers Blue. The design was entrusted to Louis Charlois, also known as 2spacy, a graduate of the Kingston School of Art in illustration and animation. The artist created a visual representation reflecting the varying intensities of the oak toasting process. His minimalist design features a sun on a Nevers Blue background, symbolizing the aromatic power of the oak: the stronger the toast level, the more numerous and radiant the sun’s rays.

A Production Showcasing Nièvre’s Artisans

Three other workshops from the Nièvre region contributed to the making of this exclusive candle series:
Les Bougies de Challuy, now based in Saint-Jean-aux-Amognes, poured the rapeseed wax over untreated cotton wicks.
Nicolas Jacquemard, a woodworker in Rouy, crafted the turned oak lids from offcuts sourced at Tonnellerie Berthomieu’s workshop in La Charité-sur-Loire.
Thomas Michal, of Pointb-art printing studio, produced the labels using traditional letterpress techniques.

This multidisciplinary Nièvre-based collaboration invites you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a cooperage workshop, at the precise moment when fire unveils the subtle aromas of oak.
