Reduction of Paper Consumption and Waste Recycling
20 September 2019
The Groupe Charlois encourages all of its employees to minimize the use of office printers and significantly reduce paper consumption.
To successfully implement this proactive policy, employees are encouraged to adopt the right habits. The first of these is to question the necessity of printing a document. To further reduce paper consumption, it is also recommended to prioritize double-sided printing, use the back of printed pages (non-confidential) as drafts or for internal note-taking, and replace the outdated fax system with email communication.
The figures for paper consumption are staggering. In France, 11 million tonnes of paper are consumed each year, half of which is used in the professional sector. ADEME estimates that an employee uses an average of 70 to 85 kg of paper annually, which is equivalent to 14,000 to 17,000 sheets of A4 paper. By adopting the right habits in the workplace, each employee could drastically reduce their environmental footprint. (Note: a ream of paper with 500 A4 sheets weighs about 2.5 kg).
At the same time, the Charlois Group has chosen to turn toRECYGO for the recycling of office paper, which is essential for the smooth operation of its services
Circular, supportive, and digital, RECYGO was founded in 2012 by the Suez Group and La Poste, whose postal workers, members of France’s first local network, collect paper waste during their rounds in businesses. Suez, an expert in water and waste management for over 160 years, then handles the recycling and recovery of the collected paper.
Currently, 100% of the waste sorted by the employees of the Charlois Group is recycled or recovered in local facilities.
