With threats to the biodiversity, France decides a few years ago to collect all the natural history collections data on a single IT platform. As a matter of fact, natural history collections are a very important source of information to understand global climatic change since the start of the industrial age and to scientifically document the evolution of natural diversity.

The digitization program of this natural heritage, named E-ReColNat, is coordinated by the Museum national d’histoire naturelle. 8,9 millions specimens have already been scanned.

The internet site Tela Botanica is in charge of collecting all the French herbarium via the Collection en Ligne (CoEL) software. In the Nièvre department, there are several herbarium including Achille Millien’s herbarium which is very interesting because the specimens have been collected in Beaumont-la-Ferrière, near the forest of Bertranges, in 1855. In that respect, this herbarium could be used to study the biodiversity evolution in a place characterized by the preservation of a huge forest for decades.
