The end of the CRD's obligation

The French government announced on June 19 that “la Marianne”, applied to bottled wines or containers of up to three liters, will no longer be required from June 1, 2019. 

In France, since 1960, the representative rights capsule also called “CRD” is inevitably placed on any wine container of up to three liters for which the rights have been paid. This capsule, adorned with the silhouette of Marianne wearing her Phrygian cap, proves that the excise duties were paid to the French government and allows the bottles to circulate. 

Following the decree of June 12, 2018, the CRD will no longer be an obligation on bottles and containers of up to three liters for reasons of “administrative simplification for companies”. Any producer of bottled wine will then be free to stop using it, in which case he will have to use another title of movement to ensure the traceability of the product. 

This change will simplify the task of the exporters in particular, because the CRD capsules are linked to the consumption of wine in France. Most of the time, this results in the use of two different types of capsules: those for the French market with the Marianne stamp and those for the export, neutral.
