L’Atelier du Foudrier, the complete mastery of the art of producing huge casks and vats

Located in the Petite Champagne, in the heart of the Cognac “appellation d’origine contrôlée” area, the Atelier du Foudrier has inherited a long craft tradition that goes back to the mid 19^th century. Craftsmen from the workshop transmitted and received for nearly 170 years – the first cooperage was founded in 1850 in Alsace by Charles Frunhinsholz – their know-how that have led to manufacture monumental casks and vats: in 1899, they manufacture the biggest cask of the world (433.000 liters) and in 1949, the biggest vast (more than one million liters) for the Byrrh institution in the Pyrénées-Orientales. They also manufacture one of the most beautiful coopers’ products in 1903 with Emile Gallé for the Pommery champagne company.   Even today, the unique experience acquired over decades guides the craftsmen from the Atelier du Foudrier in the production of exceptional casks and vats in French oak which are the illustration of the prestige and of the qualitative work of wines.     Picture: Cask manufactured in 1903 for the Pommerry champagne company © R.R.
