This exceptional atlas, including 28 meticulously traced maps of forest, is a very important testimony about the management of forests in the Nièvre department before the French revolution.

This exceptional atlas, including 28 meticulously traced maps of forest, is a very important testimony about the management of forests in the Nièvre department before the French revolution.

The compilation of maps has been realized at the behest of Louis-Jules-Barbon Mazarini-Mancini, last Duke of Nivernais and Donziais. The atlas includes the logging settlement for each ducal forest between the 1780s and the 1800s. Ducal forests woods were intended for local consumption (awarded in Nevers) or for Paris consumption as firewood (awarded in Clamecy).

Biggest part of ducal forests was confiscated during the French revolution and is now managed by the ONF.
